So, I got this idea from fellow Marketing Prof daily blogger Mack Collier who has a blog over at The Viral Garden. Mack publishes a weekly Top 25 Marketing Blogs according to Alexa, so I decided why not do the same thing for financial services companies, but with a little twist. Anyway, there are issues with Alexa and they are not perfect because it tracks their users so you only get data on that audience, but anyone can get access to it. Here goes...
ALEXA'S TOP FINANCIAL SERVICES SITES 5-21-06
So, for this week our top financial services marketing sites is none other than TDAmeritrade. This is measured by Alexa's reach so their number is a whopping 8.5 million visitors to the website last week. Scottrade came in second, followed by Fidelity.
What is very interesting regarding the list is that Wells Fargo is so high up on it which given its brand recognition and link to banking (notice the top sites that their browsers also visit) makes it a very interesting player to watch. They are even ranked ahead of E*Trade and Schwab. Scottrade seems to have a problem because the people that visit them also visit other brokers and it predominantly looks like for cheap trades. Finally. TD users seem to like their technology or there is an error in the data, perhaps due to their large reach.
Anyway, that's it for this week. Next week, I'll take a look at where people get their financial trading ideas from. Thanks Mack for the good idea, even if I had to put my own spin on it.
PardonMyFrench,
Eric
I wondered how long it would be before someone tweaked the list, good job!

Hey Mack,
It was a great idea. In fact, I got a lot of play out of it at a finance conference the last two days. BTW - it is a lot of work pulling the data.
